Voice mode

Talk to Claude out loud and hear it talk back. Beta, web and mobile only.

Available on
Web

What it is

Voice mode lets you speak to Claude and hear it reply in a natural voice. Different from dictation — it’s a spoken, back-and-forth conversation rather than a way to type hands-free. Beta, English-only today.

Where to find it

On the web

  • Use voice mode button on the composer (sound-wave icon, lower right of the chat window).

How to use it

  1. Open any chat at claude.ai and click the Use voice mode button on the composer.
  2. The first time you start voice mode, Claude offers a choice of voices. Pick one.
  3. Speak. Claude transcribes what you say, responds out loud, and keeps the conversation going turn by turn.
  4. Click Stop (lower right) to end the voice turn. The spoken transcript is saved to the chat like any other message.

Change the voice or voice settings

Go to Settings → General, scroll down to Voice settings, and select your preferred voice from the options. Voice selection carries across chats.

Good to know

  • Not on desktop yet. The desktop composer has dictation (type-by-voice) but not the full voice conversation experience.
  • Beta and English-only. Voice mode is a beta feature available in English to all plans.
  • Usage. Voice conversations count toward your regular usage limits based on your subscription plan.
  • Switch between typing and speaking mid-chat — voice mode is a mode of the composer, not a separate surface. Close it and you’re back to the text composer with the same conversation.
