Claude for Office
Claude's Office add-ins for Excel, PowerPoint, and Word — with dictation, cross-app flows, and third-party platform support.
What it is
Microsoft Office add-ins that put Claude inside Excel, PowerPoint, and Word as a task-pane agent. Ask questions about the document you’re in, update cells or slides, debug formulas, draft or revise copy, and hand work between apps — all with cell-, slide-, and paragraph-level citations back to your source content.
In beta. Available on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans.
Where to find it
Excel
- Desktop or web → Home → Add-ins → find Claude → Add.
- Opens in the right-hand task pane.
PowerPoint
- Desktop or web → Home → Add-ins → find Claude → Add.
- Task pane appears on the right.
Word
- Desktop or web → Home → Add-ins → find Claude → Add.
- Task pane opens alongside the document.
Sign in with your Claude account when the pane first loads. Team/Enterprise admins may need to approve the add-in through the Microsoft 365 admin center before users can install.
How to use it
Excel
- Open a workbook and launch the Claude pane.
- Ask about a sheet: “What drives the variance in row 42?” or “Fill this template from last quarter’s actuals.”
- Claude returns answers with cell-level citations you can click to jump to.
- Approve changes before Claude writes to the workbook. Formula dependencies are preserved when assumptions change.
- Use it to debug
#REF!/#VALUE!, build models from scratch, or fill structured templates.
PowerPoint
- Open a deck and launch the pane.
- Ask Claude to draft slides, rewrite existing ones, or restructure a section.
- Claude can generate speaker notes, tidy layout, and match existing slide templates.
- Review slide-level diffs before accepting.
Word
- Open a document and launch the pane.
- Ask for a draft, a rewrite, a summary, or targeted edits.
- Claude works with selections or the whole document, citing paragraphs.
- Accept or reject changes inline.
Good to know
- Dictation in Office agents — every add-in supports voice input. Tap the microphone in the pane to speak your prompt; audio is transcribed and discarded.
- Work across apps. Claude can move context between Excel, PowerPoint, and Word — pull numbers from a workbook into a deck, or turn a Word brief into slides — within a single session.
- Third-party platforms. The same add-ins work against Google Workspace files (Sheets, Slides, Docs) and other compatible platforms, so you’re not locked into Microsoft 365.
- Availability. Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise. Free and regular consumer plans do not include Office add-ins.
- Usage counts toward your Claude plan — Office turns draw from the same pool as chat and Claude Code.
- Admin install. Enterprise admins can push the add-in via Microsoft 365 centralized deployment. Check with your admin if “Add” doesn’t appear.
- Citations are the safety rail. Every material claim Claude makes about your file points back to the specific cell, slide, or paragraph — review before accepting.
