Use style
Pick a writing style for Claude's replies — concise, explanatory, formal, or your own.
What it is
A quick toggle for how Claude writes back. Pick from built-in styles or create your own. Reachable from the + button on the chat composer.
Built-in styles
- Normal — the default balance.
- Learning — walks through the reasoning so you can follow the steps.
- Concise — shorter answers, less preamble.
- Explanatory — more detail, more context.
- Formal — tightened register, suited for professional writing.
How to use it
- Click + → Use style in the composer.
- Pick a style. The label above the composer updates to show it’s active.
- Send your next message — Claude responds in that style.
To make your own, pick Create & edit styles from the same menu. See Customize for the full style editor.
Good to know
- Style applies for the current chat. Starting a new chat reverts to Normal unless you change it again.
- Custom styles can describe tone, structure, and audience in a few sentences — Claude will follow it.
