We Love Claude

Customize

The hub for shaping how Claude works: skills, connectors, styles, and agentic defaults.

Available on
Desktop Web

What it is

Customize is the page where you shape Claude’s toolbox. The landing tabs are Customize, Skills, and Connectors, and the page’s own subheading calls out “Skills, connectors, and plugins shape how Claude works with you.” Styles still exist but live in the composer’s + → Use style flow rather than as a Customize tab. If Claude is behaving in a way you don’t like — too formal, missing a skill, not seeing your calendar — this is where you go to fix it.

On desktop, Customize also holds the agentic defaults that Cowork uses: approval behaviour, browser access, computer-use permission, code permissions. These are what make the Dispatch view feel like a slimmed-down Customize.

Where to find it

On desktop

  • Sidebar → Customize. The item lives in both the Cowork sidebar and the Code sidebar.
  • On first open, the page shows a three-column layout: categories on the left, the list of items in the middle, and a detail panel on the right.

On the web

  • claude.ai/customize — the landing page.
  • claude.ai/customize/skills — skills manager.
  • claude.ai/customize/connectors — connectors manager.

How to use it

Add a skill

  1. Customize → Skills → Add skill (or the + at the top of the list).
  2. Either pick from the directory or upload a .zip of your own.
  3. The skill appears in the list. Click it to see its description and trigger rules.
  4. It’s now available in any chat via / or the composer’s + → Skills.

Connect a service

  1. Customize → Connectors → Add connector.
  2. Pick from the directory (Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion, Gamma, Supabase, Vercel, and more) or use Add custom to point at a remote MCP server.
  3. Authorise via OAuth or paste an API key, depending on the service.
  4. Each connector has a detail page showing its permissions and a per-tool access toggle.

Change how Claude writes (styles)

  1. Customize → Styles (or + → Use style in the composer).
  2. Pick from the presets (Normal, Learning, Concise, Explanatory, Formal) or click Create & edit styles to author your own.
  3. Styles are per-chat: setting one on the composer applies to that conversation, not globally.

Adjust agentic defaults (desktop)

Customize also exposes the defaults Cowork uses when Claude runs tasks on your behalf: whether it asks for approval before tool calls, whether it can use the browser, whether it can run code, whether it can touch your computer. Review these before handing Claude a long-running task — especially if you’re going to walk away from the machine.

Good to know

  • Customize → Connectors is now canonical on desktop. The old Settings → Connectors page still loads but shows a “Connectors have moved to Customize” banner. Expect Settings → Connectors to be retired eventually.
  • The Customize → Connectors grid groups connectors by Web, Desktop, and Not connected — a quick way to tell at a glance which services work where. Desktop-only connectors are locally-run MCP extensions; web connectors run in Anthropic’s cloud.
  • Skills are shareable. A skill is just a folder of instructions, so you can export one, hand it to a colleague, and they can install it into their Customize.
  • Plan gating — some advanced customization (custom remote MCPs, team-shared styles) is Team and Enterprise only. Anthropic’s docs have the current pricing split.

What’s changed recently

  • 2026-04-30 — Re-verified /customize, /customize/skills, and /customize/connectors. Tab set unchanged. Source URLs for Use connectors… and Agent skills overview updated to follow Anthropic’s renames (use-connectors-to-extend-claude-s-capabilities, platform.claude.com).
  • 2026-04-23 — Intro corrected: the live /customize landing tabs are Customize, Skills, and Connectors (no Styles tab), and the subheading now reads “Skills, connectors, and plugins shape how Claude works with you.” Styles remain reachable via the composer + → Use style.
  • 2026-04-18 — Page verified. Settings → Connectors now displays a “moved to Customize” banner; no behaviour change.
